ALiM 2 STUDENT AGENCY AND WHERE TO NEXT

What was the impact on student motivation, engagement and student agency?

Student motivation and engagement improved continually throughout the programme. This was evident in their continual enthusiasm to be part of ALiM. They were continually talking about what was happening in the ALiM environment and greeting the ALiM teacher in the morning and making sure the programme was still running that day. Teachers of the students were continually conferenced with and they shared the positive shift of students attitudes in class. Discussions with parents allowed us to see the positive impact ALiM was having on the students and the enthusiasm they had for maths.

Where to next
Children who have met expectation will continue to get targeted maths lessons and in class will be grouped according to their needs. They are children who are identified in our annual plan so will also be tracked for the remainder of this year as per our plan for all children.

Children who have not met the expectation will continue to get extra lessons to try and accelerate their learning. All the children have made progress and although the official intervention has finished, this does not mean we stop trying to accelerate their learning. They will also get planned lessons with teachers from year 5-8 considering why they have not met the NZC expectations and reflect on this in their Spirals of Inquiry.
